Afrikassa on kaikkein eniten ihmisiä verkon ulkopuolella.

In Finland we often think that in every home there is at least one computer, and we can connect to internet almost everywhere. But it's not like that everywhere. Though computers may take our time from real meetings and conversations with our family and friends, it's handy in many cases and has brought to us better connections and even better freedom of speech. That's why it's sad that so many people are still out of it's reach.

Wearable tech

On olemassa jo paljon tekniikkaa jota voi pukea ylleen, tunnetuimpana esimerkkinä kenties google glass. Artikkeli kertoo siitä kuinka nykyään on jopa älypaitoja. Ne mittaavat sykkeen, askeleet, ja kalorien kulutusmäärän.

Wearable tech sounds cool, because we are often able to imagine our favorite science fiction character wearing it. On the other hand this picture also makes most people not to want wear them. We are not ready to look like people in science fiction movies.
Another problem is that íf you are looking first t-shirt, you might just want to take the cheap one instead of expensive shirt with functions you will never need. Developing these fine peaces of clothing is so costly that manufacturers must take great amount of money from consumers to make the project profitable.
Luckily it's not all about money - big corporations know that they must always try new things if they want stay significant in future. It's not only what makes money now, it's also what will sell products in future.

Chernobyl

What happened in Chernobyl was dreadful accident, but if someone can get some pluses out of it, good for them. People are greedy and will not stop using nuclear power just because it dangerous. They prefer thinking that they can make it work better. Because of that it's not that unthinkable that it can happen again. Because of that we have to be aware of what radiation actually does and in which ways nature fixes the problems. The better we understand threats of radiation, the better we can protect ourselves.

Robots helping mankind

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/05/06/science/a-goal-to-combat-malaria-with-the-help-of-a-robot.html?ref=science&_r=0

Julkaistu 5.5.2014 The New York Timesissa, kirjoittajana Donald G. McNeil Jr.

Tehostaakseen työtänsä malariarokotteen parissa, Amerikkalainen yritys Sanaria aikoo työllistää pienikokoisia robotteja malarialoisien etsimisessä. Loisten etsiminen on tarkkaa hommaa ja vaatii paljon aikaa useilta tutkijoilta. Robotin käyttäminen vapauttaisi heidän ammattitaitonsa suoraan rokotteen kehitystyöhön.

Humankind takes all the time huge steps forward, and it would be pure stupidity not to use our new inventios in every fields. Using robots would not only make it easier to beat malaria, but it would also make the vaccine cheaper, which can mean world to many people in poor countries.
Seeing the progress on these vaccines to diseases like HIV and malaria is really humbling. Only a few decades ago was it predicted that AIDS and HIV would destroy majority of the human species, and malaria has been estimated to be the greatest cause of death in the history of mankind. Living in the 21st century is a real blessing as modern science and medicine combat these diseases, making progress towards a healthy society every year.

Body under stress by purpose

Tieteisuutinen "Stressing out your body could help control chronic inflammation" on julkaistu Los Angeles Timesissa 6.5.2014 ja artikkelin on kirjoittanut Melissa Healy.

It doesn't sound that incredible that to get rid off constant pain, people should suffer in cold. But to help understand how our body works reaserchers must make studies that may seem  odd to us. And like the text says, no one trying to say that people with chronic inflammation should just roll in snow from time to time. Now when doctors have found out what works, they are creating safer forms to do the same. Because painkillers often have bad side effects, it would be magnificent to see that it's possible to have working non-pharmaceutical treatment.
